Le court-m\u00e9trage You Have Courage, Madame<\/em> d’Asaf Galay explore la vie et l’\u0153uvre de la photographe juive polonaise Julia Pirotte. Le film s’appuie sur le t\u00e9moignage en yiddish de Julia Pirotte, conserv\u00e9 aux Archives vid\u00e9o Fortunoff pour les t\u00e9moignages de la Shoah (Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies). Il suit deux photographes, Avishag Shaar-Yashuv et Irene Pletka, qui retracent son parcours \u00e0 travers la Pologne et la France.<\/p>\n

Le cin\u00e9aste Asaf Galay<\/strong> explore les rencontres entre culture et identit\u00e9, avec une profonde affinit\u00e9 pour le yiddish. Ses films pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents ont explor\u00e9 les biographies d’Isaac Bashevis Singer et de Saul Bellow.<\/p>\n

The short film You Have Courage, Madame<\/em> by Asaf Galay examines the life and work of Polish-Jewish photographer Julia Pirotte. The film is based on Pirotte’s Yiddish testimony from the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies. It follows two photographers, Avishag Shaar-Yashuv and Irene Pletka, as they trace her journey through Poland and France. The artists embark on an inner and outer journey through Poland and the streets of Marseille, visiting the places Julia Pirotte lived and the sites she photographed, meeting people who knew her, and bringing a contemporary perspective to her unique legacy.<\/p>\n

Asaf Galay<\/strong> is a filmmaker and curator exploring the intersections of culture and identity, with a deep affinity for Yiddish. His past films have explored the lives of Isaac Bashevis Singer and Saul Bellow.<\/p>\n

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Asaf Galay, moderated by Shahar Fineberg<\/strong>, artist and director.<\/p>\n

New-York. A la suite de sa huiti\u00e8me tentative de mariage infructueuse, le jeune Nath Silver d\u00e9cide de devenir \u00ab marieur \u00bb et fonde son entreprise sous un nouveau nom : Nat Gold. D\u00e9sormais conseiller en relations humaines avec une certaine notori\u00e9t\u00e9, il tombe amoureux de la belle Judith qu\u2019il avait pour mission de marier \u00e0 un autre homme.<\/p>\n

Ce film qui fait partie des tr\u00e9sors du cin\u00e9ma yiddish, \u00e0 la fois dr\u00f4le et m\u00e9lancolique, met en sc\u00e8ne le personnage d\u2019un shadkhn, marieur traditionnel dans le monde juif d\u2019Europe de l\u2019Est, confront\u00e9 \u00e0 une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine en pleine mutation.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l\u2019issue de la projection, Arnaud Bikard proposera un \u00e9clairage historique et symbolique sur la figure du marieur, son r\u00f4le social et sa place dans l\u2019imaginaire collectif des communaut\u00e9s juives ashk\u00e9nazes.<\/p>\n
