Si Vilnius, Varsovie, New York, en \u00e9taient des hauts lieux, dans le Paris et Berlin de l\u2019entre-deux-guerres, s\u2019\u00e9panouirent nombre de courants d\u2019avant-garde qui furent propices \u00e0 la floraison de productions th\u00e9\u00e2trales yiddish aux mises en sc\u00e8ne novatrices, voire r\u00e9volutionnaires.<\/p>\n

Nick Underwood explorera ce monde bouillonnant afin de mettre en lumi\u00e8re les contributions de ces villes au d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019une riche culture th\u00e9\u00e2trale et d’un th\u00e9\u00e2tre yiddish de grande qualit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Professeur d’histoire et titulaire d\u2019une chaire d’\u00e9tudes juda\u00efques au College of Idaho (\u00c9tats-Unis), Nick Underwood<\/strong> est l\u2019auteur de Yiddish Paris: Staging Nation and Community in Interwar France<\/i> (Indiana University Press, 2022). The global phenomenon that was and is Yiddish theatre reached many corners of the global Yiddish map, and there have been historical standouts: Vilna, Warsaw, and New York. But what about Berlin and Paris, cities that played host to a wide variety, even revolutionary, of staged productions. Le Sacre du printemps<\/i><\/span>, anyone?\u00a0 This talk will explore the exciting world that was interwar Yiddish theater in Berlin and Paris to highlight the contributions these cities made to the development of a truly global theatrical culture.<\/p>\n

Nick Underwood<\/strong> is assistant professor of history and the Berger-Neilsen Chair of Judaic Studies at The College of Idaho. His book\u00a0<\/span>Yiddish Paris: Staging Nation and Community in Interwar France<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i>was published by Indiana University Press in 2022 and was named a National Jewish Book Award Finalist. His work has appeared in several journals and edited volumes, and, most recently, he contributed to the recently published Histoire Juive de la France<\/i> (Albin Michel, 2023).<\/span><\/p>\n
